HOUSTON: Emgage is pleased to announce that Palwasha Akhtar Sharwani has been named Emgage Texas’s new Executive Director.
“Palwasha is an invaluable member of the Emgage family, and we are thrilled that she is moving into this new role,” said Wa’el Alzayat, Emgage CEO. “She is dedicated to the Emgage mission and will be a great leader for the chapter.”
Sharwani previously served as Emgage Texas’s Operations Director. She has worked with and alongside the chapter since the coronavirus pandemic began in spring 2020. Prior to her work with Emgage, she spent several years in New York City working on anti-poverty initiatives before returning to Texas and eventually serving as Elections Director for the Harris County Democratic Party for the 2020 cycle and 87th legislative session. Later, she originated her role as a member of the inaugural Voter Registration and Outreach team at the Harris County Elections Administrator’s Office. She holds an MA in International Affairs from The New School and is a proud first-generation Pashtun American and postcolonial Muslim feminist.
"I take great pride in being part of an organization that exemplifies my own core Islamic principles and fundamentally uplifts Muslim women to thrive as formidable civic leaders. I know how fortunate I am,” said Sharwani.
