It's Funnel Week at the Iowa Legislature – the deadline for bills to make it out of committee if they're going to advance this session. It's "I'm Just a Bill," but on "Survivor." |
-
Rep. Sami Scheetz: The anti-LGBTQ bills moving through the Iowa legislature are not only mean-spirited + divisive—they're hurting our cities’ ability to attract new business and workers to our state. Leaving people alone to live their lives in peace costs nothing and benefits our state immensely.
-
Iowa House Democrats: We introduced a comprehensive bill to legalize marijuana in Iowa. Democrats have heard from people of all parties, in all corners of the state who strongly believe it’s time to legalize marijuana in order to keep Iowans safe, stop our tax dollars from going to neighboring states, improve the quality of life, and stop wasting state resources to unfairly punish Iowans.
- Iowa Senate Democrats: “Don't erase me or my experience from any language or books.” Listen to powerful testimony from an 11-year old against Gov. Reynolds book banning bill.

It's International Polar Bear Day! Did you know that polar bears' fur actually isn't white? Their hair is translucent and reflects light, which makes it easier for them to blend in with their surroundings. (Reindeer – who can see in ultraviolet light – can still spot them.) |
Polar bears are our digital director Lauren's favorite animal, so here are a few more polar bear fun facts: -
Their scientific name is Ursus maritimus, or "sea bear."
- Polar bears can smell their prey from up to 16 km away. (A polar bear could be at the Des Moines International Airport and smell the Auntie Anne's stand at the Jordan Creek Mall!)
