This is urgent - please, read this today.? ? ? ? ? Friend ? this is moving quickly through the House. Last week, a bill was introduced to ban copper sulfide mining in the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota.

In late 2018, the Trump administration suspended a two-year mining moratorium and renewed cancelled mining leases near the Boundary Waters to allow toxic copper sulfide mining in upstream watersheds. In the process, they even killed a scientific impact study and buried the results ? it's never been made public ? and JUST last month, Big Polluters submitted their plans for a new toxic mine near the Boundary Waters.

This is incredibly dangerous. If this mine is built, there will be no way to avoid irreversible toxic damage to this natural treasure.

Passing this bill could be our last best chance to protect the Boundary Waters ? the most-visited wilderness area in the country ? from being destroyed.

There are still members of Congress on the fence ? and the vote could be close. We're mobilizing to flood House and Senate offices with letters. We're organizing activists in key states.

A major donor has put up a $500,000 contribution to fund environmental campaigns like this one ? if 10,000 LCV members pitch in first. We're turning to you for help.

Please, renew your membership with the League of Conservation Voters today for $5 or more. It's the best thing you can do to help right now ? [link removed]

Friend: In reaching that goal, small donations count the same as big ones. Renewing your membership for just $5 could make the difference between funding some major environmental campaigns this year, or totally scaling back.

AND, if you make a donation of $35 or more, you'll get your choice of one of these awesome t-shirts to show your environmental pride: [link removed]

This is our most important fundraising campaign of the year. If we don't hit our goal, it means we need to scale back at a time when major environmental decisions are being made. ANYTHING you can give will help in a huge way. Here's where things stand right now:

2020 JANUARY MEMBERSHIP DRIVE GOAL: 10,000 donations PROGRESS: 71% to goal A donor will give $500,000 if we meet our goal.

Please confirm your membership. NAME: Friend Friend SUPPORTER EMAIL: [email protected] DONATE TO 2020 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE? Not yet. MEMBERSHIP STATUS:RENEW NOW FOR $5 [link removed] I hope we can count on you. The damage to the Boundary Waters will be far-reaching if this mining project moves forward.

We have a real shot at getting this into law ? I promise. Oftentimes even when we get something passed in the House, it gets blocked by Republicans in the Senate. But protecting the Boundary Waters is wildly popular. This bill already has Republican support in the House.

We have to get this done, friend ? but the only way we can pull this off is with your help. Please, don't sit this one out.

Thank you ? for everything you do for the environment.
