Today we are thrilled to announce our 2020 state targets! This year brings momentous Presidential and Senate elections, but it is also our very last chance to build progressive power in state legislatures ahead of redistricting in 2021. The results of the upcoming election will reverberate for the next decade.

We have identified the states with the biggest opportunities for progressive change. Each of these states fits one of our strategic buckets: (1) Blue Flips, (2) Blue Holds, (3) Blue Inroads, with a focus on states where the state legislature controls redistricting. We have also weighted our strategy toward states with important U.S. Senate and congressional races, and states where it is crucial to win Electoral College votes.

We know our model works in state races—now we’re scaling it to defeat Trump, too. No matter who the nominee is, we will be supporting superstar state legislative candidates who will connect with voters on local issues, and drive turnout up and down the ballot in the places that matter most:

Right now, we are building relationships and listening to partners on the ground in each of our 2020 states, monitoring candidate filing deadlines, and beginning our endorsement process. We are thrilled to see a diverse cohort of candidates emerging. By supporting them, we can build a democracy that reflects the full chorus of American voices. We will announce our first wave of endorsements in early April, with a second wave of endorsements in June.
2020 can be a banner year for American democracy, but only if we work together to help our candidates raise money, get out the vote, and get into office. We all must do more this year than we’ve ever done before.
