Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Legislative Democrats continue their rampage radically transforming Minnesota passing consequential policy changes into law while completely ignoring the approximate 49% of Minnesotans who DID NOT vote for them in the last election. The population exodus of the productive from MN begun PRIOR to the current legislative session will now only be exacerbated. I’ve included a screenshot below of two news articles which highlight this reality.

DRIVERS LICENSES FOR ILLEGALS

Last week Senate Democrats passed the bill that will grant driver’s licenses to those here illegally with all Democrats voting in favor and all Republicans opposed.

The license will be identical in every way to driver’s licenses for legal citizens and residents. Democrats rejected all Republican attempts to distinguish driver’s licenses to illegals with features such as vertical orientation, different color, or text. The Democrat rejecting common sense measures presents three exceptionally dangerous problems:

First, it creates a serious national security threat. Until the federal REAL ID law takes effect, a driver’s license can grant one access onto a military base or federal building. An illegal immigrant with bad intentions and one of these identical licenses could expose that massive gap in security.

Second, it jeopardizes the integrity of our elections. Democrats are also pushing an automatic voter registration law and a bill to weaken safeguards in our elections even further. With one of these licenses, illegal immigrants will have an easy time registering to vote.

Third, because jurors are selected from lists of registered voters, licensed drivers, and state ID card holders, illegal immigrants will be summoned to sit on juries. Courts will no longer be decided by a jury of one’s peers but instead Minnesotans will be convicted of crimes by those in MN illegally.

The danger Democrats are putting all law-abiding Minnesotans in to appease their extremist base is simply astounding. With no safeguards in place, the Democrat legislation will lead to significant fraud, abuse, and even further compromised elections.

As a minority myself married to an immigrant and multiple other immigrant family members, I testify first-hand how immigrants are an indispensable part of the fabric of this country. There are countless immigrants who played by the rules, followed the process, and did things the right way. Their contributions are insulted every time we normalize those who broke the law.

FELONS VOTING

Last week Senate Democrats passed a bill giving convicted felons on probation the right to vote no matter their crime.

It’s stunning how reckless Democrats are operating at the Capitol by passing legislation that permits violent sex offenders and other dangerous criminals the same right to vote as law-abiding citizens. I offered a series of amendments including prohibiting sexual predators and child rapists from voting, but nevertheless Democrats unanimously voted all my amendment down.

It’s a very simple concept: if one breaks the law, one must pay the consequences. The consequence of committing a felony is forfeiting one’s voting rights until one has repaid one’s debt to society. Probation is an important part of a criminal’s sentence, and it should not be carelessly cast aside. This is common sense for most of us, but not for the extreme Democrats.

VIOLENT YOUTH

A drive-by shooting occurred just before 8 PM Friday last week at the Wellstone Center in Saint Paul during the funeral reception taking place at the time for Devin Scott, the 15-year-old stabbed to death earlier this month at Harding High School. Tragically, violence among our youth continues to grow.

Broken families and absent fathers are among the primary contributing causes of out-of-control / violent children. Truth recorded in the Scripture Book of Malachi speaks of the necessity of the hearts of fathers being turned to the children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest there be societal consequences. We are clearly witnessing the violent consequences of the hearts of fathers missing from their children's lives.

The root cause of the increase in youth violence is a hardened heart. Fathers involved in the lives of their children cannot be substituted by government programs. Moreover, softening hearts to do right cannot be solved via a legislative fix. However, our Creator is in the business of changing hearts if we turn to Him.
