Multiple earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye. A year of war in Ukraine. February was a devastating month for women and girls around the world, friend.
Three massive earthquakes struck Syria and Türkiye, claiming the lives of at least 47,000 people and displacing as many as 6.3 million people. Meanwhile, Ukraine passed the grim anniversary of one year in conflict – which comes just as airstrikes have started degrading the power infrastructure, plunging some Ukrainian families into darkness in the dead of winter.
From the moment tragedy struck in Syria and Türkiye, UNFPA has been on the ground providing relief, including warm blankets and clothes for families left without a home and dignity kits, which provide women and girls with personal care supplies to manage their period after being displaced.
We’re also working in the midst of ongoing conflict in Ukraine – for the last year, UNFPA has been on the ground offering protection to survivors of wartime sexual violence and reaching those in need with mobile health clinics where doctors can even deliver babies via C-sections.
Plain and simple: With all these crises and emergencies, we need to expand our fundraising goal to keep our long-standing programs funded and ensure that we are there for every woman and girl, always.
Your gift will deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to women and girls in more than 150 countries around the world. Thank you for being there for every woman and girl.
