STTA Live! Queer Voices in the Time of Book Bans

Overwhelming majorities of American voters strongly oppose book bans, and more than half oppose them in all circumstances. However, they continue to happen in school districts and libraries across the country typically targeting books written by LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors.

Join us this Thursday, March 2nd for Something to Talk About Live!

Our #PFLAG50Gala Honorees

This Friday, March 3, we'll celebrate 50 years of leading with love at the PFLAG 50th Anniversary Gala in New York City.

And we are #PFLAGProud to announce our honorees: Big Freedia, who will receive the inaugural PFLAG National Breaking Barriers award; and Tom Daley, the inaugural recipient of our newly named George Takei Advocate Award. We'll also honor Mondelēz International and our partners at Oreo with the Straight for Equality in the Workplace award.

The event is sold out, but be sure to follow us on social--and the hashtag #PFLAG50Gala--for all of the excitement!

This Thursday, March 2nd, is Read Across America Day! So let's all #ReadWithLove

We can think of no better way to celebrate Read Across America Day than by lifting up the PFLAG Read With Love Book Club, where you'll read alongside a group of dedicated bookworms eager to devour titles written by LGBTQ+ authors.

We’re partnering with our friends at ShopQueer.co, an independent bookshop that splits its profits with queer authors, doubling their income from the sale of a book.

First up? Arvin Ahmadi’s How It All Blew Up, an incisive look at identity and what it means to find yourself by running away. We'll be joined by author Arvin Ahmadi for our meeting! And be sure to check out our Read Across America episode of Something to Talk About Live, this Thursday, where Arvin will join us for the conversation.

Bi+ Health Awareness Month: Beyond Visibility

#BiHealthMonth, founded and led annually by our friends at the Bisexual Resource Center, raises awareness about the bisexual+ (bi, pansexual, fluid, queer, etc.) community’s social, economic and health disparities; advocates for resources; and inspires actions to improve bi+ people’s well-being.

This year's theme is "beyond visibility," uplifting that while visibility is the first step on the path to ensuring better care, more inclusive resources, and healthier community spaces, there's still more work to be done to ensure health equity for bi+ folks.

Visit bihealthmonth.org for helpful resources, educational information, and ways to get involved as a partner to show your support!
