John, I want to tell you why I ran for Senate in the first place.

My father was a Marine and Vietnam Veteran who lost his job in his 50s.

Soon after, my family burned through our savings and relied on food stamps just to get by.

It was tough, and we probably wouldn’t have made it through without public support.
