John,

When I announced the launch of Defend Democracy PAC last week, I was blown away by the support and enthusiasm from this grassroots team.

(If you haven’t yet had a chance to become a Founding Donor, you can chip in here: [link removed])

Together, we’re going to make real change happen in Virginia – but before we can roll up our sleeves and start the hard work, I want to answer some of your questions.

Q: You already have a PAC. Why did you start a new one?

Defense Dem PAC is a federal PAC, which places specific rules and contribution limits on our work.

Defend Democracy PAC is a state-level PAC, with fewer limitations to help us compete with the GOP money machine. State PACs can only contribute to state and local candidates, which means that every dollar donated to Defend Democracy PAC in 2023 solely supports Democrats here in Virginia.

Q. What’s the mission of Defend Democracy PAC?

We chose the name Defend Democracy PAC because we want to safeguard democracy in the Commonwealth against extremism and authoritarianism.

That includes fighting against election conspiracies, protecting voting rights, and guaranteeing that our elections are free and fair.

Our mission also includes standing by our most fundamental Virginia values. We’ll support candidates and causes that champion equality, freedom, opportunity, and truth, and diligently defend the rights of all Virginians.

Q. How will Defend Democracy PAC use my contributions?

Our team will identify the most competitive and consequential races across Virginia, and determine how and where our funds will have the greatest impact. The grassroots contributions we receive will be used in two key ways:

1. Directly contributing funds from our PAC to help Democratic candidates win.

2. Producing ads, expanding our network of active Democratic voters and volunteers, registering new and inactive voters, and canvassing in communities across the state to build a blue majority from the ground up.
We’ll always use your generous contributions efficiently and effectively.

John, our extremely narrow Democratic majority in the State Senate means that abortion rights, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and more are on the line in November. And Virginians will vote in more than 2,000 other elections, from School Boards to the General Assembly.

So today, I’m humbly asking you to become a Founding Donor of Defend Democracy PAC. Will you pitch in $25 to help us build a safe, secure, and democratic Virginia for all?
