John,
Last Congress we defeated a really dangerous bill called KOSA, the “Kids Online Safety Act,” which would make kids less safe while expanding online censorship and surveillance. Bad news: that bill has been reintroduced, and it’s moving quickly.1
Under the guise of “protecting the kids,” KOSA would force every website to censor content related to important topics like mental health and online bullying, while incentivizing companies to invade young people’s privacy even more than they already do. KOSA is so bad it’s being opposed by more than 100 human rights organizations ranging from the ACLU to GLAAD. But to stop it, elected officials need to hear from all of us, their constituents. Click here to tell your lawmakers to oppose KOSA.
Take Action
We urgently need Congress to pass real legislation that reins in Big Tech companies and protects kids (and everyone else!) from predatory surveillance.2 But KOSA doesn’t do that. Instead, it effectively empowers the same states that’ve been banning books from libraries and criminalizing daytime drag shows to write the speech rules for the entire Internet.3
Our kids deserve better than false solutions that do more harm than good. We need to demand that Congress drop KOSA and focus instead on passing real data privacy legislation. In the face of major opposition, they’ve backed down before. And we can do it again. But only if everyone speaks out. Use our tool to tell Congress: Protect everyone. Reject KOSA.
Thanks for all you do,
Evan at ❤️ Fight
