Friend,

Some people say they want to "drain the swamp" -- Citizens United is the embodiment of the swamp.

Few decisions in the 200 and some odd years of this republic have threatened our democracy like Citizens United. The 2010 Supreme Court ruling ended the spending limits set for corporations on political advertising -- and it led to an absolute flood of money into politics.

I'll be honest: Overturning Citizens United is probably more important than any other single thing we could do to preserve this great and grand democracy. That's why I introduced a constitutional amendment this summer to undo the decision.

This week marks 10 years since the Supreme Court ruled on Citizens United. We can't allow dark money to rule our democracy: Join me in fighting to end Citizens United and the flood of money in politics right now.

In the 2016 election cycle, special interests spent at least $183.5 million in "dark money," up from $5.2 million in 2006, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, with "conservative" special interests making up over 75 percent of that spending.

But here's the thing: Whether you're conservative, liberal, or independent, our democracy is built on the idea that sunshine is the best disinfectant. If you don't know who is paying to help elect your representatives, then how do you know they're really working for you?

Citizens United has wrecked our democracy for 10 long years -- we can't let it happen for another 10. Join me in fighting to end dark money in politics: Add your name today.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
