JANUARY 23, 2020: There are more homeless people living in New York City than any other American city—78,604. Los Angeles is second with 56,257. Seattle places third with 11,199.[1] ([link removed])
Nationwide, 567,715 are considered homeless. That 2019 figure is up 3% from the year before. “The national increase is primarily due to a leap in homelessness in California where it grew 16.4 percent between 2018 and 2019.”[1] ([link removed])
Nationwide, 63% of the homeless live in some form of sheltered accommodation. However, once again, things are much different in California. In the Golden State, 71.7% are unsheltered. The state has more than nine times as many unsheltered homeless people as any other state.[1] ([link removed])
