Dear John,

This last week, I've been working to bring attention to the vast and ongoing threat that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to almost every area of American life. That's why I introduced legislation to prevent the CCP from influencing our young people or spying on sensitive research projects. I am also honored to announce that I've been re-appointed to a critical federal commission to investigate the CCP's ongoing human rights abuses.

There are just a few days left to nominate a Woman of Distinction for 2023! If there is a woman in your life that deserves Congressional recognition, be sure to check out the nomination form. Additionally, I'm excited to announce the Business of the Month!

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Protecting Our Education System

The CCP is actively engaged in efforts to spy on American citizens across every industry, field, and institution, including our college campuses. We must combat these threats wherever they arise. College campuses should be places that foster academic freedom and sound, unbiased, research – values that the CCP seeks to undermine.

The CCP is the greatest threat facing the United States today, and the continued presence of their Confucius Institutes on American campuses is very concerning. That's why, I introduced the Stop Higher Education Espionage and Theft (SHEET) Act with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). This legislation will ensure any bad actors seeking to infiltrate academia to influence our youth and spy on sensitive research projects are quickly and decisively expelled.

For students considering their next steps after high school, the Military Service Academies present an exciting opportunity to receive a world-class education and unmatched leadership skills, paid for by the U.S. Military. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA); the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

To request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the form on my website, and someone my office will be in touch with additional information. In the mean time, visit my website to learn more about the application process.

Accountability for the CCP's Human Rights Abuses

Image
I am honored to have been re-appointed to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China to continue my work to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its horrific violations of human rights. As we work with free nations around the globe to address strategic competition with China, we must continue to expose the crimes the CCP commits against its own people. My parents fled North Korea to escape communism. This Commission exists to expose the CCPs abuses to the world. I am dedicated to being a voice for the repressed minorities of China and all those who long for freedom yet continue to suffer at the hands of oppressive Communist regimes.
