In 2022, thanks to the hard work of countless supporters like you, we defeated and unseated far-right extremists in elections across the country – including keeping John Gibbs out of office.

But Michigan is not immune to the threats of extremism. In fact, right here in West Michigan, far-right Republicans unseated several moderate Ottawa County board members, creating an extremist majority that is already supporting and enacting harmful policies.

The new board has already closed the county’s office of diversity, equity, and inclusion; appointed a public health officer who supported ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment; and changed the county’s motto from “Where You Belong” to “Where Freedom Rings.”

I ran against extremism in 2022 and won, so I know this team can do it again. But with Republicans already working to strengthen the presence and influence of far-right politicians, we cannot afford to stop preparing for even a moment.
