Dear Georgian,
As people are taking time this week to honor President Jimmy Carter, I want also to thank him for his military service to our country. Many know President Carter as Governor and President, but few know of his distinguished career in the U.S. Navy as a young man.
Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946, the same year he married his wife, Rosalynn Carter. During his military service, he was the Senior Officer of the USS K1 submarine and later joined the Nuclear Sub Program to help develop the first atomic submarines. He retired as a Lieutenant and returned to Georgia to help on his family farm before beginning his political career.
He was the only U.S. President to have qualified on submarines, and his career earned him the namesake of USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23).
Last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of Russian War Criminal Vladimir Putin's immoral and illegal unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
The bond between the freedom-loving people of the United States and Ukraine is stronger than ever, and we honor the sacrifices of the brave Ukrainians defending their homeland. 2023 will see the liberation of Ukraine.
As always, my staff and I are here to help.
