Some might call me too honest for what I’m about to say, but I think it’s important that you know why we’re prioritizing recurring contributions right now:

Last election cycle, we were constantly cutting it close with our budget. Because Pat was on the ballot three times in six months in two different districts, we ran our campaign with a high-risk, high-reward mindset. And sometimes, we had to make tough choices about where to spend valuable campaign resources.

This time around, we have more time to prepare and plan our budget. We can build on what we saw work last time around and make sure we have the funds to support these efforts.

For example, our grassroots organizers were difference-makers in Pat’s narrow victories last year. We had six organizers on staff — and we’re hoping to hire more organizers earlier in the cycle this time around. And as I’m sure you remember, we ordered more yard signs than I ever imagined we would need, and we still ran out several times.

That’s where your recurring gift comes in: If we know how much our donors are giving regularly, we can better allocate how we’ll use our resources over the next two years.

A monthly gift means we have a baseline budget to work with and devote to the campaign resources we need. We can invest earlier and more in staff and valuable advertising time. And it means we have to reach out less often to ask for your support.
