I am committed to standing up for the right to reproductive healthcare, even if that means challenging the Biden Administration’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
My office is making national news for leading a federal lawsuit against the FDA to stop unlawful and unnecessary restrictions on mifepristone — an abortion pill used by millions of Americans.
With reproductive rights being eliminated across the country, we can’t afford to sit back while access to healthcare is threatened.
A Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas is on the verge of banning mifepristone — nationwide.
I’m fighting back by leading a coalition of Democratic Attorneys General. A few days ago, we filed a federal lawsuit in Washington state seeking to
expand access to mifepristone by eliminating the unlawful restrictions imposed by the FDA that make this medication more difficult to obtain.

Here are the facts:
- A quarter-century worth of evidence demonstrates that mifepristone, used to treat both miscarriages and medication abortions in the first trimester, is safer than Tylenol. Despite this, the FDA is placing harmful regulations around its access.
- The FDA’s restrictions on this important medication have no basis in medical science. There is no justification to subject mifepristone to the same restrictions as dangerous drugs like Fentanyl.
- The FDA’s strict requirements reduce access to reproductive healthcare in a post-Dobbs world. For example, only nine of our 20 Eastern Washington counties have abortion providers who can dispense mifepristone. Washington State University’s medical center and campus pharmacy cannot dispense this medication. That’s a key reason I filed the lawsuit in Eastern Washington.
Thanks to the hard work of my team, some of the most important legal battles in the country have been waged in Washington state courthouses —
this is the latest fight.
We must stand up to these unfair restrictions. Add your name if you think the FDA should follow science. >>
I will continue leading the fight for reproductive freedom.
Thank you,
Bob
