John,
Good afternoon and welcome to our
Weekend Update.
The train derailment on the
Ohio-Pennsylvania border has been a pressing concern for many,
especially those in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania…
unfortunately that concern has not been shared by the White House. Too
little, too late tends to define the Biden Administration on far too
many issues. I joined Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” to discuss the
disaster in East Palestine, Ohio. Click
here or below to watch.
Last week, I joined Pennsylvania
Cable Network’s live call-in show. We took calls from across the state
on various issues, including the economy, the debt ceiling and the
border. The show will air throughout the week on PCN. Click
here to review the schedule for upcoming broadcasts.
A few days ago, I joined our
friends State Senator Lisa Baker and State Representative Jonathan
Fritz for "Lunch with Your Legislators" in Montrose. We had the
opportunity to discuss the concerns of leaders from Susquehanna County
and, more importantly, what can be done about them on a state and
federal level. This type of session is valuable for all of us, and I
look forward to this type of teamwork to tackle pressing
issues.
On Thursday morning, I stopped by
Bucknell University to participate in a great event hosted by the Open
Discourse Coalition. We had a room full of students and leaders
interested in educating themselves on differing opinions and healthy
debate. I want to thank the President of the Open Discourse Coalition,
Charles Mitchell, the great coach Pat Flannery, and my good friend
Frank Schoeneman for welcoming me onto campus and being great leaders
and role models. It was also great to see my son, Danny, a Bucknell
student, on campus.
I attended the Schuylkill County
Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday evening with many great elected
officials. There was a full house of great Republicans ready to elect
committed local candidates to office on Primary Election
Day.
On Friday night, I attended the America
250 PA event at PNC Field, where this great group put together an
excellent event for so many state and local elected officials. We
gathered in support and in preparation for celebrating America‘s 250
years in Pennsylvania.
Last night, I attended the Lycoming
County Republican Committee Lincoln Day Dinner held in Williampsort at
the famous Genetti Hotel. I got a few moments to address the great
crowd of dedicated Republicans before keynote speaker, State Treasurer
Stacy Garrity, took the stage. It was a very enjoyable evening in
Lycoming County. A special thank you to Chairman Don Peters and his
committee for their great work in putting together such a great
event.
IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE
MAINSTREAM MEDIA: As an elected representative, the minimum
requirement is showing up, being present, and addressing a crisis
head-on. Unfortunately, time and time again, Democrat politicians have
shown that when it comes to Biden’s border crisis, they won’t show up.
Their inaction proves they don’t care about the death, destruction,
and chaos they’ve helped fuel at our nation’s border.
This week, the House Judiciary Committee
held a hearing in Yuma, Arizona, after touring the border.
Unfortunately, no Democrats attended the tour and are boycotting
the hearing.
Here’s some of what Border
Patrol agents had to say about Democrats’ callous disregard for
the crisis:
- “It was expected that Democrats would not show up to the
border. I don’t think they want to see what’s going on and the damage
they have done. The Democratic Party has not offered real solutions,
just unrealistic promises.”
- “Democrats have been a no-show at the border for two years.
What else is new?”
- “I think that it should've been a bipartisan hearing down here
because in order to solve a border security and immigration crisis, we
need to involve the community, the experts, the business community.
That takes everybody and so that means everybody that is represented
and their representatives need to be here.”
Biden, Harris, Alejandro Mayorkas, and
their House Democrat enablers have created the worst border crisis on
record. Now, they can’t even be bothered to show up. It’s clear they
subscribe to the out-of-sight, out-of-mind approach regarding the
border crisis they created.
And to close on a much more positive
note, we joined with the next generation of leaders in the 9th
District and across the country to celebrate National FFA week. The
Future Farmers of America school-based program helps our young people
foster their talents and learn about new experiences from a real-world
perspective. This program allows them to meet and share ideas and
prepares them for careers as food suppliers and innovators.
National FFA Week began in 1948 to honor
the legacy of President George Washington as an agriculturalist and
farmer. The program also highlights science and business. These young
men and women are the future leaders of our nation.
Until next week, God bless, and see you
soon,
Dan
