Dear John,
To be completely honest with you, I hate asking for money. It’s easily one of my least favorite parts of the job. And you might be thinking, you were just sworn in — what’s the point?
It’s a fair question! But the thing is, when you run for Congress, you have to run every two years. And remember all of the work it took to get here?
We faced an extremely competitive and contested primary. At many points, we were out-raised, out-spent, and down in the polls. Next cycle, it’s likely that we could face another competitive primary, and conservative interest groups could come out of the woodwork to spend against us. We cannot take a single thing for granted – and we cannot let our campaign operation lapse.
Grassroots contributions from people like you are the reason why a candidate like me – a lesbian mom and the daughter of an immigrant – can get elected to Congress.
Every month, we sit down to crunch the numbers and figure out what exactly we need to raise online to stay in good shape financially. If we raise $10,000 this month, we’ll be on track for the quarter — and thanks to supporters like you, we only have $1,556.50 to go!
John, I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important, but we need all hands on deck to keep our campaign operation running smoothly. If you can swing it, will you chip in $10 or more so I can continue fighting for you?
