This Congress, we have the largest coalition of progressive lawmakers in history, and our work together is more important than ever. That's why I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you about one of the freshmen members I'm most excited to partner with — Summer Lee.
Summer is an organizer, attorney, and the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania in Congress. She's building a people-powered, grassroots movement for environmental justice, reproductive rights, union jobs, and racial equity — all without taking a cent from corporate PACs.
Thanks to supporters like you, she made history last November – defeating corporate allies and super PACs who wanted to see our movement for progress crushed. Now, she needs our help.
Summer and I both understand that the inequities facing our communities are the result of generations of precise, intentional, discriminatory policies. That's why we must be just as precise and intentional about transforming these systems.
I was so proud to have Summer's support on my Baby Bonds bill that would guarantee every child a federally-funded savings account, and with that a better chance at economic mobility that will help close the racial wealth gap. And together, we will keep pushing for meaningful policy change — Medicare for All, student debt cancellation, paid sick leave, a Green New Deal, and more.
