John, we can’t let this stand.
Research conducted by Global Canopy found that a third of all corporations linked to deforestation have ZERO policies in place to deal with the consequences. They’re willing to destroy tropical rainforests and displace thousands of species without giving it another thought.
And of the 100 companies that do have a deforestation commitment, only half are actively monitoring their suppliers or sourcing regions in line with their deforestation commitments. Meaning their pledges are just empty promises.
STOP DEFORESTATION » [[link removed]]Why does this matter? → Places like the Amazon rainforest are some of the Earth’s most vital “carbon sinks,” which means it absorbs a large portion of the carbon dioxide in the air. This is extremely important, especially as countries around the world struggle to get carbon emissions under control.
What does this mean? → Deforestation is deeply harmful to rainforests and our global environment at large. These companies are directly harming tropical rainforests’ survival, and they aren’t even trying to pretend like they care.
What can we do? → Putting a stop to the extreme deforestation of this area, holding corporations accountable for letting deforestation get out of hand, and innovating new ways to absorb carbon are all top priorities for SEEC members. They know that without healthy and functional forests, our Earth doesn’t stand a chance. Will you contribute anything you’re willing to SEEC members who are focused on protecting our earth’s natural defenses against climate change? [[link removed]]
