FL-27 Newsletter
Vol. 118, Issue #8
Dear Friends/Amigos,

Thank you for allowing me to bring you this brief weekly update. It is an honor to represent Miami in Congress.

During district work periods, I value the time I am able to spend meeting with constituents, small businesses, and local organizations. As your voice in Washington, doing so allows me to become a better legislator. This week was no different as I did just that.

I also wanted to extend an invitation to visit our nation's capital. If you are planning to visit the area, let us help you! Click here for more information.

As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district.

Sincerely/Atentamente,

Maria Elvira Salazar
U.S. Representative (FL-27)
GULLIVER PREP STUDENT EARNS
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS MEDALS
Last week, I had the chance to meet with many wonderful members of the student body at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest. Gulliver Prep is one of Miami's finest schools and is steadfast at preparing our next generation of leaders.

The reason for my visit was to recognize Ms. Julia Estrada for her volunteerism and dedication to community. Julia is an example to all who believe in giving back, with over 580 voluntary public service hours logged. For her work, I look forward to welcoming Julia to Washington, where she will receive the Congressional Gold Medal later this year.

MIAMI AWARDED OVER $18.5 MILLION IN COMMUNITY PLANNING PROGRAM FUNDING
The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Miami-Dade County over $18.5 million for projects to help FL-27 residents with their housing needs.

Programs include grants to develop our urban centers by expanding economic opportunities, assist those members of our community facing a housing crisis and/or homelessness, and expand the supply of affordable housing to residents in the area.

In meeting with our neighbors and members of our community, I hear the same thing over and over: the cost of living in South Florida is too high. These grants are a step in the right direction, and I will continue to work to ensure all in FL-27 can achieve their American Dream.

If you need any help with a federal agency regarding these issues, feel free to call my office at (305) 668-2285.
