Lesko Empowers States, Not Federal Government, To Create Education Policies

reintroduced my Make Education Local Act to put individual states in charge of their education policies by allowing them to submit their own education plans to the Secretary of Education and consolidating their funding from the federal government under one grant. Arizona has been a leader in empowering schools and parents, not bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., to make education decisions for our children. I am pleased to reintroduce this bill to return educational decisions to states and families, take the federal government out of the classroom, and help students thrive.

GET THE FACTS: President Biden's America is in Crisis

Under the Biden Administration's watch, Americans are suffering. The Biden Administration and congressional Democrats increased America's 10-year spending trajectory by $10 trillion, and as a result, Americans are facing record-high inflation rates and a national debt of more than $31 trillion. Sadly, this unprecedented government spending has focused on partisan priorities, including the left's woke Green New Deal agenda. Democrats' soft-on-on crime policies have allowed violent crime to skyrocket. President Biden and his administration have also repeatedly refused to secure our southern border. These open border policies have facilitated more than 4.5 million illegal crossings at the southern border. Border Patrol agents have seized more than 1,000 pounds of deadly fentanyl for seven consecutive months. This has created an unprecedented humanitarian and public health crisis in our nation. To make matters even worse, President Biden has waged a war on American energy production. Whether it was an executive order to close the Keystone XL pipeline or deplete the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to a critically low level, President Biden has undermined our energy security, instead placing our nation at the mercy of foreign adversaries.

Amid these numerous self-inflicted crises, House Republicans are delivering on our Commitment to America. We have passed legislation to defund President Biden’s 87,000 IRS agents, protect America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from being sold to Communist China, end the authoritarian vaccine mandate for healthcare workers, remove unproductive teleworking policies, and condemn the evils of socialism. We have passed bills through the U.S. House to secure Washington, D.C.'s elections and stop the reduction of sentences for violent criminals. As for our commitment to protecting life, we passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and an important resolution to condemn the violence against pro-life crisis pregnancy centers. House Republicans are hard at work for the American people, and we are only getting started!

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued her an information verification letter about her tax return. Despite repeated attempts, the constituent was unable to reconcile the issue. Our casework team contacted the IRS and discovered that the tax return had errors that resulted in the return being selected for a formal audit review. Our office worked with the IRS to confirm the necessary changes to the return, and identified the issues for the constituent to correct. Shortly after, the constituent received her final refund.
