As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, I had the opportunity this week to visit the U.S.-Mexico border near Yuma, Arizona. The committee held a field hearing in Yuma, listening to people in the community who are directly impacted by the Biden border crisis. American communities like this one are completely overwhelmed because of illegal immigration.
During the hearing, it was discovered that Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas deliberately lied to a Yuma County Supervisor and failed to close extensive gaps in the southern border. The Biden Administration must be held accountable for turning a blind eye and failing to secure our border.
Border communities are failing due to their destructive immigration policies. Our trip included a visit to a local hospital on the brink of collapse after spending $20 million on migrant care. Republicans should not be the only party igniting demands for asylum reforms, protecting the “Remain in Mexico” policy, finishing the wall, and unleashing the capabilities of our Border Patrol agents.
REP. GAETZ INTRODUCES SYRIA WAR POWERS RESOLUTION
Last week, U.S. Central Command announced that four U.S. service members were wounded during a partnered U.S. and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) helicopter raid in northeastern Syria, ultimately killing a senior ISIS leader. In response to this news, I introduced a War Powers Resolution mandating the removal of U.S. Armed Forces from Syria no later than 15 days after the date of the resolution’s adoption.
The U.S. Constitution gives Congress the sole power to declare war, and Congress has never authorized kinetic participation of U.S. Armed Forces in Syria. Given this, U.S. service members should not be engaged in dangerous military operations there. But if President Joe Biden wants to keep U.S. troops in Syria, he should have to explain what the goal is and what winning looks like. It is imperative that Congress reassert its constitutional authority over decisions on sending our military into contentious conflicts.
Since War Powers Resolutions are privileged, the House of Representatives will be forced to vote on my resolution within 18 days of its introduction. Members of Congress will have to go on the record as to whether we ought to continue our military involvement in Syria. America First means actually putting the people of our country first—not the interests of the Military Industrial Complex.

On Thursday, I visited Yuma, Arizona, and saw up-close just how bad the border crisis has become. Joined by fellow Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee, I learned that the people of Yuma are on the frontlines of the border invasion every single day and that the border crisis is reaching its breaking point. Instead of Democrats addressing the problem, they continue to ignore it.
Sadly, illegal immigrants are taking over Yuma’s sole hospital, with a fourth of pregnancies needing attention in the ICU. With only twenty neonatal intensive care units available, American taxpayers and their newborns are being crowded out, sometimes having to travel up to 170 miles for the closest care. I predict the border crisis is coming to a neighborhood near you.

On Wednesday night, I appeared on the “Ingraham Angle,” explaining that it is easy to see why Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is frustrated with the homogenized wokeness being pushed on the country by the federal government. Instead of a “national divorce” though, House Republicans should aggressively use the power of the purse to defund and defang federal departments and agencies.

Earlier this week, I attended a House Judiciary field hearing, discussing the challenges Yuma County Supervisors and their community are facing.
After a record 310,000 illegal crossings in 2022, which is an all-time record for this sector, it comes to no surprise that my colleagues and I were not joined by a single Democratic member of the House Judiciary Committee when we visited Yuma’s border wall. Moreover, we learned that Secretary Mayorkas lied to Arizona officials on the Biden Administration's promise to secure the border. Democrats have no idea how much damage their policies have caused this nation. What’s worse is they don't care.
