I grew up in the segregated South – where my sister and I were the only Black kids at our school. Now, as one of the highest-ranking Black women in Congress, I carry these experiences with me – and I'm running for Senate to make the promise of justice and equality a reality for the next generation.

But experts at The Washington Post are saying that I'm at a fundraising disadvantage in this race – a race that could be one of the most expensive in California history.
