Adam Lambert has never shied away from being his authentic self, and he’s not about to start now

From our friends at Queerty:

It's easy to forget today, with LGBTQ+ representation in music at an all-time high, but when Adam Lambert first burst onto the scene during the eighth season of American Idol in 2009, he was an anomaly. Here was an unapologetically gay man slaying the stage in black eyeliner before a national audience on network television and winning millions of hearts (and votes!) along the way with his humble but confident personality. The pressure had to be immense, but Adam did it. And in the process, he helped pave the way for many of the openly queer artists we love today.

Fourteen years, five solo releases, and 3 million album sales later, Lambert is still here and just as fierce and fearless as ever. Queerty's Cameron Scheetz caught up with him at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival last month, where his new film Fairyland premiered, to talk about that project, his new album, High Drama, and the impact he's had on the music industry as an openly queer person. Despite achieving international success, Lambert remains as down to earth as he was all those years ago on American Idol. He's still rocking that black eyeliner, too.

Editor-in-Chief, Queerty
“Our community is under attack again. Seeing a universal story of a father — who happens to be gay — a single father raising a little girl, I think it’s really important right now.”
-Adam Lambert
