John, Montana’s attempting to make a NEW call for Article V – a dark money plot to reshape our Constitution.
That’s right – even after Common Cause members like you stopped Montana’s last call for Article V last month – by only one vote – our opponents are at it again. We can’t afford to let them reverse our hard-fought win with this latest attempt.
And now, one of the major groups pushing for Article V said they’re doubling down on their efforts to pass the call in Montana – and other states across the country.
That’s why I’m pulling out all the stops to counter their efforts and keep Montana’s call from passing. But I need to know you’re on my side.
Article V is a dangerous plot to reshape our Constitution that many experts believe is the biggest present threat to our democracy. And it’s all taking place behind closed doors, out of the public eye.
The calls for Article V are funded by millions in right-wing dark money from the likes of the Koch network and the Mercer family. If allowed to succeed, megadonors and corporations will have free rein to radically reshape our Constitution against the will of the people – gutting free speech, the right to protest, right to privacy, and more.
Those behind Article V are counting on their scheme to stay under wraps – so they can get the SIX remaining states they’ll need to shred up our Constitution – and the rights you and I depend on – before we even know what’s happening.
So Common Cause is sounding the alarm far and wide – bringing this dangerous attack on our rights into the eyes of the public, and using grassroots power to stop it.
And this people-powered exposé is working, John. While we successfully defend against new convention calls in states like Montana, we’ve already rolled back calls for Article V Conventions in New Jersey and Illinois – in addition to stopping nearly 150 new calls for a convention each year in states across the country.
But don’t let these wins fool you, John. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but this fight isn’t over. The extremists and megadonors behind Article V see us shutting them down – and they’ve confirmed their plan to double down in response to our success.
Article V proponents are already attempting to pass a new call in Montana – just weeks after we shut the last one down. And we can count on many more calls popping up in states across the country.
We need a multi-state grassroots organizing strategy to stop Article V from gaining any more ground – the kind of approach only Common Cause can provide.
