Gov. Justice signs HB 2882 at former Weirton Steel Mill, new home of Form Energy’s West Virginia Manufacturing Plant
|
|
|
Gov. Justice signed House Bill 2882 on Friday at the future site of Form Energy on the ground where Weirton Steel once stood. The bill appropriates $105 million to the West Virginia Economic Development Project Fund to be used for Form Energy’s new battery manufacturing facility.
|

|
Gov. Justice announced in December 2022 that Form Energy will partner with the State of West Virginia to build its first iron-air battery manufacturing facility on 55 acres of property in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, along the Ohio River, in the city of Weirton.
|
|
|
The new battery manufacturing plant is expected to create a minimum of 750 new full-time jobs and will represent a total investment of up to $760 million, including $290 million from the State.

WVDEP implements new requirements through collaborative agreement with Union Carbide related to Ethylene Oxide
|
|
Gov. Justice announced earlier this week that the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (WVDEP) Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has signed a collaborative agreement with Union Carbide Corporation’s (UCC) Institute facility to implement additional measures that will reduce ethylene oxide (EtO) emissions.
While this facility is currently in compliance with all of the EtO-related terms and conditions of its air permits, these new requirements go above and beyond state and federal rules and regulations.
They will be enforced at the state level and reduce the amount of EtO emitted and the potential risk in the Institute area.

Gov. Justice signed House Bill 2412 into law earlier this week, officially making November 14 every year a special Memorial Day in remembrance of the Marshall University plane crash.
It passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate.

Gov. Justice delivers $200k state match for new wastewater treatment facility in Mingo County
|
|
Gov. Jim Justice announced earlier this week that he delivered a $200,000 check to the Mingo County Redevelopment Authority as a state match to a United States Economic Development Authority grant award for the construction of a wastewater treatment facility at the Mingo County Air Park.
“We're doing exactly what we need to do to bring more folks to Mingo County and Southern West Virginia," Gov. Justice said. "So, with this check, the project can officially begin and I couldn’t be more proud. The impact of this project will be felt by the people of Mingo County, the Appalachian Regional Airport, and the surrounding small businesses that stand to gain from this new facility. To all those in Mingo County who had a hand in making this project a reality, great work."

Gov. Justice says he's committed to finding a long-term owner for the Pleasants Power Station
|
|
Gov. Justice reaffirmed his commitment to finding a long-term owner for the Pleasants Power Station earlier this week. The coal-fired power station gainfully employs thousands of West Virginia miners, plant workers, technical and support workers, and retailers.
It's estimated that the Pleasants Power Station has a $128 million impact on Pleasants County and its surrounding counties and contributes $1.75 million annually to the Pleasants County Commission and Pleasants County Board of Education.
The plant also represents the largest taxpayer in Pleasants County and is considered the heart and soul of the community.

Gov. Justice congratulates West Virginia Housing Development Fund for earning top credit rating from S&P Global
|
|
|
Gov. Justice applauded the West Virginia Housing Development Fund after learning S&P Global awarded the Fund a AAA general obligation rating, the highest credit rating an organization can earn.
The West Virginia Housing Development Fund continues to be the only state housing finance agency in the country to consistently earn a AAA general obligation rating.

Gov. Justice attends GameChanger's showing of One Pill Can Kill in Marion County
|
|
Gov. Justice attended another showing of the film 'One Pill Can Kill' at a GameChanger event in Marion County earlier this week. Over 2,000 students from North Marion, East Fairmont, and Fairmont Senior gathered at The Fester Center at Fairmont State University to watch the film.
GameChanger is a student-powered substance misuse prevention movement connecting West Virginia students and the educators who care about them with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to build school environments that prevent student opioid and other drug use before it starts.

First Lady Justice introduces newest Friends With Paws therapy dog during assembly at Bridgeview Elementary School
|
|
First Lady Cathy Justice visited Bridgeview Elementary School earlier this week for an assembly to celebrate the arrival of the state’s next therapy dog through the Friends With Paws Communities In Schools (CIS) program.
The dog introduced at today’s event is named Louie. He is a Yellow Labrador.
“We were thrilled to see the turnout to welcome Louie to Bridgeview Elementary,” First Lady Justice said. “He has truly been greeted with open arms by the South Charleston community, and I can’t wait to see the impact he has on the students here.”
