Friends,
“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.” - Samuel Adams
Battles continue across the country in the states where we have a freedom caucus. The biggest LIE we continue to see in red states is that Democrats know they can't win with a "D" next to their name, so they run as Republicans and then vote like liberals. They are deceiving Republican voters! But our state freedom caucuses are exposing it, one roll call vote at a time. Check out what is currently happening in Wyoming and South Carolina:
WYOMING
- Despite being outnumbered, the Wyoming Freedom Caucus killed a bill that would provide subsidies to Hollywood. In a local press report, a supporter of the bill who would have financially benefited from it “believes the [Wyoming] Freedom Caucus orchestrated the demise of HB 92 and other bills that had majority overall support, but which they didn’t agree with.”
- The other bills the WYFC killed included Medicaid Expansion!
- To understand the headwinds that the WY Freedom Caucus face, the WY House has a 57-Republican to 5-Democrat majority. But that’s only on paper, when you look at the lawmakers’ actual voting records, Liberals have 36 members compared to just 26 Conservatives. To date, this is why Wyoming hasn’t been able to pass commonsense conservative issues like school choice, medical freedom, parental rights, a ban on porn in school, mandates against ESG, and even sensible budgeting. So it's a BIG deal when the WY Freedom Caucus is able to secure this victories.
SOUTH CAROLINA
- The SC Freedom Caucus continues to rack up grassroots support. The Lexington County GOP was first out of the gate, announcing their support for the SCFC and censuring the SC House GOP for kicking the freedom caucus members out of the Republican Caucus. Their crime was refusing to sign the so-called “loyalty pledge” that prevented members from exposing their more liberal colleagues when they undermined conservative principles. Since the Lexington decision, two more counties have joined in censuring the SC House GOP – Anderson and Newberry. We expect more counties to do the same.
- Related, the SC House recently debated an abortion bill where SCFC members offered pro-life amendments. One amendment would remove all exceptions to abortion from the bill (Amdt 6). Another amendment would increase penalties and punishment for doctors who perform an abortion (Amdt 9).
- Despite the SC House having a Republican supermajority, both amendments were defeated. If you live in South Carolina, we encourage you to see how your representative voted by clicking here - Amdt 6 and Amdt 9. Since both votes were to kill the amendments, a “N” vote is the correct vote. A “Y” vote is to kill the amendment.
