Dear Friends,
I met with residents across the First District this week to discuss some of the progress we’ve made in Washington to lower costs for families and deliver resources to communities, as well as my continued commitment to protect seniors’ hard-earned benefits from proposed cuts.
I hosted a public forum in Manchester to provide an update on our efforts to protect Medicare and Social Security benefits in Congress. Some members have proposed cuts to these programs in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. I oppose these efforts and have instead offered a plan to protect and expand Social Security benefits, not cut them.
The East Granby Fire Department was awarded $210,000 in federal funding for much-needed equipment upgrades. The breathing devices their volunteer firefighters rely on have not been updated in almost 20 years. We worked hard to secure this funding in Congress for updated equipment to better protect East Granby’s firefighters in the line of duty.
I visited the Middletown Senior Center to discuss new benefits available to seniors, including lower Medicare premiums for the first time in over a decade and an 8.7% Social Security benefit increase, the largest since 1981. The Inflation Reduction Act we passed last year is going into effect to cap insulin co-pays at $35 per month under Medicare Part D and provide recommended vaccines, including shingles, at no cost.
I will continue my efforts in Congress to get results for the families and communities of the First District. Should you have any questions or if I can assist you with a federal agency, please contact my District Office at 860-278-8888.

Regards,
John B. Larson
Member of Congress
