Eagle Scouts

One of my favorite things to do is usher scouts to the rank of Eagle. To be an Eagle Scout, one must display characteristics of trustworthiness, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness, courteousness, kindness, obedience, cheerfulness, thriftiness, bravery, cleanliness, and reverence. In doing so, they stand apart as leaders among their peers.

ImageThat is what my father, William Sessions, imparted to me from a young age. Since then, Scouts of America and scouting have always held a high degree of significance in my life. Both of my sons are proud Eagle Scouts. Both are young men who have achieved much due to the instillment of Scout qualities that naturally create success.

This week I had the opportunity to take part in an Eagle Scout ceremony. Noah Huff from Baylor Troop 497, who has taken the time and effort necessary to achieve Eagle Scout, received this special status of leadership. I was proud and honored to be a part of adding another Eagle Scout to the Waco community. Congrats Noah, you will go far.

Congressional App Challenge

I was also given the opportunity to meet Aayush Vishnoi, who won our annual Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge provides an opportunity for ambitious learners in high school to learn how to code and encourages them to pursue careers in computer science.

ImageI was impressed by the app that Aayush created called Sand Sieve. After personally witnessing beaches covered in trash, Aayush wanted to increase public interest in cleaning and taking better care of them. Sand Sieve challenges the player to identify and clean trash. It also provides relevant information for people interested in learning more for their next trip to the beach. I am a strong believer in being a good steward of the habitats God has given us. I salute Aayush’s dedication to providing best practices for protecting our beaches.

Looking Ahead

Image

Next Monday, Congress will be back in session. It will be an important planning week for myself and fellow House Financial Services Committee members and House Oversight and Accountability Committee members. We will have “mark-up” sessions where legislation referred to each respective committee is considered, and amendments are offered and voted on before each bill is reported to the Floor of the House. While each committee is doing important work holding hearings related to the overreach of the federal government, the Biden administration, and the largest issues for American citizens, we are also a legislative body. For substantive legislation to reach the Floor of the House for a vote, we must take time to parse through every bill and ensure each is in America's best interest. I am looking forward to working on behalf of America and our Texas way of life this next week.

Sincerely,
