Pacific Pocket Mouse
They may be smaller than your thumb, but Pacific pocket mice have a big hand in keeping their coastal ecosystems healthy. Using their cheek “pockets” to carry and disperse native seeds, and digging burrows that aerate and hydrate the soil, they’re key gardeners for their habitats. Protecting these critically endangered mice is crucial to maintaining the delicate balance of their Southern California ecosystems.

With your support, we’re collaborating with partners to save this tiny powerhouse species through our Southwest Conservation Hub. For more than a decade, we’ve been caring for Pacific pocket mice—including the Oldest Living Mouse in Human Care, as certified by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™—and working to restore native populations through conservation breeding and reintroduction efforts. Dig in to see why our Pacific pocket mouse conservation program is making headlines, and how your support is making all the difference for these little mice.

TOSS THE TUSK
Join us at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on March 3, as we come together to “Toss the Tusk” and celebrate World Wildlife Day. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute wildlife products, including ivory, which reduces the demand for these products and brings hope to endangered species worldwide.

In this two-part blog series, explore how some unlikely heroes are using their noses to help frogs in their native habitats. Hint: they have four legs and love treats!

CELEBRATING THE WORLD’S LARGEST BEARS
International Polar Bear Day is February 27, and we’re celebrating these majestic marine mammals and all you make possible through our Oceans Conservation Hub. Together, we’re collaborating with partners to save and protect polar bears, as climate change threatens their sea ice habitats. Discover more about our vital conservation efforts, and join us in celebrating these arctic icons on International Polar Bear Day!
