Hello,

Friends and neighbors –

This week, the Itasca County Board voted unanimously to support a resolution enshrining the county as a Dedicated Second Amendment County, affirming residents’ Second Amendment rights and opposing any government infringement on those rights. Resolutions like these are needed now more than ever, as extreme anti-gun bills start making their way through the House and Senate.

Senator Steve Green, Senator Rob Farnsworth, and I proudly sent a letter to the county in support of their resolution.

Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Immigrants passes Senate

This week, Senate Democrats passed their bill to provide driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. Those licenses would be identical to standard licenses, with no distinguishing features.

The driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants bill was a complete mess. It's not just about public safety - it has serious flaws that put our national security and our elections at risk. I wish we could have fixed this bill to make it a little safer for Minnesotans, but Democrats rejected every one of our improvements.

Felon Voting passes Senate

Hours before they passed their driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants bill, Senate Democrats approved a bill giving convicted felons the right to vote before they have completed their entire sentence.

Minnesota has low incarceration rates because we let people out early, but that doesn't mean it's not a crucial part of an offender's sentence. We should not downplay parole. Offenders need to repay their debt to society for the crimes they've committed, and that means completing their full sentence before their rights are restored.

It was great to have students from Brainerd representing LeadMN in Saint Paul this week. The future is bright!

Sincerely,

Justin D. Eichorn
