On Tuesday, I joined the team at University of Rochester Medical Center to announce $1 million in federal funding I secured alongside Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to support renovations at Strong Memorial Hospital. These funds will go towards URMC’s long-term Emergency Department expansion project to help modernize their services, strengthen quality of care for patients, and improve health equity across our community. One of my top priorities in Congress is ensuring quality healthcare is affordable and accessible for every family in Rochester—and this funding will help make that a reality.

Our healthcare heroes work tirelessly day in and day out to keep our community safe, even during the most challenging circumstances. It was a privilege to be able to give back by ensuring they have the tools, resources, and facilities they deserve to do their jobs well.

 Getting to Know Orleans County 

I’m proud to have added part of Orleans County to my district this year, and on Wednesday, I had the opportunity to spend time meeting with leaders to discuss the most important issues facing their communities.

Our first two stops were to Downtown Lyndonville and Yates Town Park, where I met with Lyndonville Mayor John Belson and Yates Town Supervisor Jim Simon. It is clear they both have a deep love for the communities they serve, and I look forward to working with them to continue building strong futures for Orleans County families.

Our day culminated in a delicious stop at Hurd Orchards for samples of their fantastic apple pie and their famous Ruby Frost Apples—I cannot wait to visit again with my family!

 Supporting the Brave People of Ukraine 

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Over the past year, we have seen their tremendous courage on full display as they combat unimaginable challenges. I have had the privilege of hearing directly from President Zelenskyy on multiple occasions and continue to be inspired by his bravery and fortitude.

I have proudly voted to send billions in military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. I continue to meet with our local Ukrainian community and reiterate my commitment to providing the support they need and deserve. I was glad to see President Biden visit Kyiv earlier this week and demonstrate America’s strong ongoing allegiance to the people of Ukraine. I look forward to working alongside the President and all of my colleagues to support Ukraine and their right to self-determination. Slava Ukraini!

 Fighting for a Better Future for Our Community 

I often tell my team that you can’t learn while you’re talking—which is why I try to spend more time listening instead. This week, I was grateful to spend time at the Veterans Outreach Center and the Genesee Valley Nurses Association to listen to their concerns, ideas, and suggestions for how we can make our community a better home for all families. I’m looking forward to returning to Washington and turning these suggestions into actions and results.
