Here’s the situation, John: Emerge alums are changing the face of politics to build the inclusive democracy we deserve. But these women still face greater obstacles as they strive for higher office.

That’s one huge way that politics-as-usual tells bold Democratic women to stay small. And that’s why Emerge launched our Seated Together program to empower our trailblazing Black alums to move up the political pipeline and deepen their incredible impact!

Today, we’re celebrating three members of our first Seated Together cohort who WON their elections last year!

Ohio State Representative Emilia Sykes was just elected to the U.S. House in the midterms! She fights nonstop for financial relief for struggling families, fair representation and unbiased maps, and safe working conditions for all Ohioans. London Lamar holds the distinction of being the youngest ever woman state senator of Tennessee! She is a staunch advocate for healthy communities and access to essentials like clean water. Joanna McClinton has more than one historic first under her belt. She was the first woman and the first African American to be elected as chair of the Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus, and the first woman to be elected as House Democratic leader in the oldest legislative body in the nation! When Leslie Herod won her 2016 election, she became the first LGBTQIA+ African American to hold a seat in the Colorado General Assembly. Now she’s running for mayor of Denver to champion creative and powerful solutions to affordability, houselessness, and more!

We’re thrilled to see our alums shatter glass ceilings in politics – but we have a lot of work still to do! Our second Seated Together cohort begins soon, and we need your help to continue this crucial program and help bold women leaders overcome every obstacle in their path.

So please: Will you give $23 or more now to help Emerge expand our unique training and empowerment programs, so we can pack the political pipeline with bold Democratic women in 2023 and beyond?
