Friend, as of today, it’s officially been a full year of suffering in Ukraine. For this past year, women and girls have faced wartime violence, pregnant women have been left without proper prenatal or postpartum care, and girls have had to experience their first periods during a time of immense stress and grief.
For a full year, millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes and watch their cities crumble to dust. As airstrikes continue to rain down, the power grid has deteriorated – leaving families without access to heat and water in the face of a bitterly cold winter.
From the moment the war began, UNFPA was on the ground aiding women and girls. In December 2022 alone, we reached more than one million survivors of violence with services, provided more than 8,000 people with mental health care, and distributed over 10,000 dignity kits – filled with personal care items and warm clothing to combat the winter cold – to women and girls in need.
But, friend, now that we’ve passed the one-year mark in this conflict without any end in sight, we must keep our relief efforts in Ukraine funded.
