One year ago today, Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. He thought the war would end quickly, and that the world would do nothing. He was wrong.
The Ukrainian people held the line, and America and its allies stood strong alongside them. Together, we showed Putin and tyrants across the globe that we will fight for democracy.
For the past year, the Ukrainian people have shown us the meaning of bravery. Against a lawless enemy who imagined victory as inevitable, Ukrainians held firm and inspired the world with their courage.
They not only stalled Putin’s unprovoked attack, they're pushing it backwards.
Meanwhile, America has led a determined and growing alliance of democracies to defend Ukrainian freedom. On a bipartisan basis, we have acted to provide billions of dollars to help Ukrainians fight back and rebuild; weaken Russia’s economy; strengthen NATO; and make Putin and his oligarchs pay a price.
Last winter, we passed my bill to use the funds from seized Russian yachts and other ill-gotten assets to support relief and recovery in Ukraine. Thanks in part to you and this team, we’re holding Russian oligarchs accountable and helping Ukraine rebuild.
Over the coming months, I will continue doing everything I can to support the brave people of Ukraine. I will keep working to advance liberty and justice and to hold the enemies of democracy, foreign or domestic, accountable.
The road ahead will be difficult, but one year later, we can say this: Vladimir Putin is weaker. NATO is stronger. And our resolve to fight for democracy, in Ukraine and across the globe, is unwavering.

Together, let’s continue the work of supporting Ukraine and upholding democracy worldwide. As President Biden said, Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia. Never.
Thank you,
Michael
