Happy Black History Month, team!
This month, we recognize and celebrate Black Americans, their contributions to our nation’s institutions, innovations, progress, and culture.
It’s important to recognize that Black history is American history. Black trailblazers and activists have led the social movements that have strengthened our nation and freedoms — from the Civil Rights Movement, Labor Movement, Women's Rights Movement, and the fight for LBGTQ+ equality and reproductive justice.
While this month is about celebrating the contributions that Black Americans have made to our country, like significant advancements in medicine, technology, education, and so much more, we must also acknowledge the severe inequities that persist.
Every day, extreme legislators volley relentless attacks to try and erase Black history in our schools, suppress the voices of Black and brown voters across our nation, and much more.
Look, rooting out systemic racism in all of our institutions is work that needs to continue every single day, not just during Black History Month — and it begins with us.
Together, we can stop voter suppression, reform our criminal justice system, ensure access to high-quality health care, and fight for reproductive justice. This Black History Month, please join me in recommitting to the fight for racial justice:
