Approaching the Halfway Point |
The first bill of the 2023 legislative session has been signed, and with important deadlines approaching (and some having already passed), next week is shaping up to be a busy few days for legislators at the statehouse.
SB 2, the first bill signed by Governor Holcomb, will enable small business owners who file individual income taxes to fully deduct their state tax payments from their federal taxes, allowing each one to potentially save hundreds or even thousands of dollars in federal taxes. These businesses are essential to our state's economy, and this legislation is another step forward in our efforts to foster and promote a business environment that encourages growth and supports our Hoosier entrepreneurs.
As you can read further down, many of the priority bills of our Republican caucuses and Governor Holcomb continue to move through the legislative process, passing out of committees and onto chamber floors. Collectively, these bills focus on cutting taxes, making historic investments in education, strengthening public safety, reaffirming parental rights, protecting Hoosiers' data privacy, and more. There's still a long time to go, but Republican legislators are hard at work, set to again deliver results for Hoosiers. And as Governor Holcomb has said about the session so far, "We came out of the gate strong." Enjoy this week's newsletter and share it with a friend. Sincerely, |

CNBC: Key Fed inflation measure rose 0.6% in January, more than expected
|
Somebody get President Biden some new talking points.
From the CNBC:
A measure the Federal Reserve watches closely to gauge inflation rose more than expected in January, indicating the central bank has more work to do to bring down prices.
The personal consumption expenditures price index excluding food and energy increased 0.6% for the month, and was up 4.7% from a year ago, the Commerce Department reported Friday. Wall Street had been expecting respective readings of 0.5% and 4.4%. The core PCE gains were 0.4% and 4.6% in December. Markets fell following the report, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average off around 500 points in morning trading.
“This morning’s strong inflation data continued the recent spate of market-unfriendly news. This could keep the policy rate higher for longer than the market had hoped, which in turn will likely pressure earnings,” said Matt Peron, director of research at Janus Henderson Investors. Story continues.
