It's been one year since Putin's lawless, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

Thousands of Ukrainians have been killed. Many thousands more injured. Millions more have been displaced.

While Trump was in office, his corruption emboldened Putin, weakened Ukraine, and undermined U.S. national security. I witnessed Trump’s corruption firsthand. And if you look back to 2021, it was in the weeks and months after Trump’s insurrection that Putin began building up his forces along Ukraine’s border. It’s because of Trump’s cheerleading that Putin thought he could get away with his illegal war.

Putin thought the United States was weak. That we’d let him get away with attacking Ukraine.

But he was wrong.

Thanks to the resolve of the Ukrainian military and its people, our NATO allies, and the leadership of President Biden, Ukraine held on. Because of our support to Ukraine, Russia will cease to be a conventional military threat to NATO and the U.S. for the next decade.

And it’s important we’re clear here: There is no getting back to normal with Russia. Not without victory for Ukraine. The best-case scenario for our long-term national security is to help the Ukrainians liberate their territory and beat Putin.

But the far-right doesn’t see it that way.

From Trump to Tucker Carlson to Marjorie Taylor Greene to Matt Gaetz, they’re all too happy to pander to and cheerlead for Putin. For a full year, they’ve flooded this country with lies and disinformation on Putin’s behalf. Far-right radicals are even pushing “Ukraine Fatigue” bills in Congress, trying to limit the aid we can provide.

Lies, division, and disinformation compromise our national security and help Putin. We can’t let that happen. We have to show Congress that the American people are united behind Ukraine. VoteVets certainly is, and so am I.
