We got close to a Global Ocean Treaty at the last round of UN negotiations in August. However, talks failed because governments like the UK, EU and US brought too little to the table, too late. [1]
And while governments delay, destructive industries continue to harm the oceans -- impacting the billions of people who rely on the oceans and deepening the climate crisis.
This must be the final rounds of talks. The UK has already said they support the 30 x 30 target. Now they must put their words into action and commit to doing everything in their power to ensure the Treaty is agreed.
We need to publicly expose the risk of failure and ramp up the pressure on them to do everything possible to win a strong ocean treaty. The government needs to know that the public is watching them and holding them accountable. Will you publicly call our Foreign Secretary James Cleverly?
