Emily Kohrs’ Cringeworthy Press Tour Risks an Indictment for President Trump

MSNBC: Emily Kohrs, the foreperson of the special grand jury in Fulton County, went on a media tour of sorts, giving interviews to NBC News, The New York Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other news outlets, and she is apparently enjoying her moment in the spotlight. She revealed the names of witnesses who testified. She told us that some witnesses were immunized. She confirmed that the jurors had listened to a recording of former President Donald Trump’s phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and had discussed the slate of alternate electors. When she was asked whether Trump was one of them, she replied: “You’re not going to be shocked. It’s not rocket science” (MSNBC). Lawyer Steve Martin: She should not have offered and the media folks that asked her should not have asked her the way they did. It’s easy to see in 5 seconds that she can pulled into any direction. The questioners knew and they all went for a scoop. Not a good day in American press or jurisprudence (Twitter). Katherine Herridge: Statement on Fulton County grand jury (Twitter).

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Visits East Palestine, OH for First Time Since Train Derailment
CBS: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited East Palestine, Ohio, for the first time on Thursday, as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released the initial results of its investigation into the derailment of a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous substances. The 38-car train that crashed Feb. 3 has sparked serious health and environmental concerns for the area’s residents, who have expressed frustration over the slowness of the federal government’s response to the crisis (CBS). Daily Wire: Buttigieg, who has presided over several high-profile infrastructure problems during his tenure, said earlier in the week that he would visit East Palestine “when the time is right” (Daily Wire). Townhall: REPORTER: “Should you have come a little sooner?” PETE BUTTIGIEG: “I’m trying to strike the right balance” (Townhall).

House Oversight Committee Announces Probe into State Dept. for Silencing Conservative News
Katie Pavlich: House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced an investigation into the State Department after it was revealed by the Washington Examiner the federal bureaucracy spent hundreds-of-millions in taxpayer dollars on censorship of conservative news outlets. Comer is asking for a number of State Department documents to be provided and for a briefing from Blinken to Committee staff by March 3. He’s asking documents be provided to “enable oversight of the Department’s administration of funds flowing to organizations working to censor lawful speech and suppress press freedoms” (Townhall). Gabe Kaminsky: Disinformation Inc: The State Department-backed National Endowment for Democracy granted over $315K in 2021 to the Global Disinformation Index, which is secretly blacklisting conservative news (Twitter).

US Increases Garrison of Soldiers in Taiwan
Bloomberg: The US is increasing its small contingent of troops in Taiwan to train local forces, an American defense official said, in the latest move of support for the island democracy and willingness to raise the ire of China. The US military presence in Taiwan would grow to between 100 and 200 troops, up from about 30 a year ago (Bloomberg). Wall Street Journal: The U.S. officials said the expansion was planned for months, well before U.S.-China relations plummeted anew this month after a suspected Chinese spy balloon traversed North America for more than a week before being shot down by the Air Force. With a decades-old military buildup gaining momentum, China’s People’s Liberation Army is increasingly engaging in aggressive maneuvers, sending planes and ships near Taiwan (Wall Street Journal).

Children’s Book About Impactful Women Includes Dr. Rachel Levine
Fox News: A children’s “chapter book series about women who spoke up and rose up against the odds” and is targeted at kids ages 6 to 9 years old is set to release a book about Rachel Levine, the first openly transgender federal official confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2021 who is now the new assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The book, “She Persisted: Rachel Levine” by Lisa Bunker will be released on June 6, 2023, and was inspired by Clinton’s picture book series by the same title that tells the stories of women like Oprah Winfrey, Sonia Sotomayor and Greta Thunberg. The book, which includes an introduction from Chelsea Clinton, states it is the “perfect choice for kids who love learning and teachers who want to bring inspiring women into their curriculum” and provides a “list of ways that readers can follow in Rachel Levine’s footsteps and make a difference” (Fox News).

National Archives Fires Security Official Who Asked Students to Remove Pro-Life Clothing
Daily Signal: The National Archives and Records Administration says it has fired the security officer responsible for telling students that they could not wear pro-life apparel in the museum. On Jan. 20, 2023, the day the national March for Life took place in Washington, D.C., security officers at the National Archives ordered multiple visitors to “remove their hats and cover their attire displaying pro-life messages,” according to a letter from acting Archivist Debra Steidel Wall (Daily Signal). Fox News: Wall’s letter reportedly explained that the security officers are private contractors, and that the vendor they used investigated the matter and found out that one of their supervisors “provided instructions to other security officers who work for the same vendor that were contrary to our policy” (Fox News).

Electively Single Men Under 30 Reaches 63 Percent
New York Post: New Pew Research Center data has found that nowadays, 63% of men under 30 are electively single, up from 51% in 2019 — and experts blame erotic alone time online as a major culprit. The new, post-COVID numbers would surely back up previous research that the pandemic has made men prefer an evening alone instead of actually meeting a partner. The male numbers come sharply juxtaposed to the 34% of women under 30 who now say they’re single (New York Post). Hill: Heterosexual women are getting more choosy. Women “don’t want to marry down,” to form a long-term relationship to a man with less education and earnings than herself, said Ronald Levant, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Akron (Hill).

Sam Bankman-Fried Charged with Four Additional Counts
Daily Wire: Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried faces four additional charges related to the disgraced entrepreneur’s allegedly fraudulent cryptocurrency empire. Several companies controlled by Bankman-Fried filed for bankruptcy at the end of last year after customers and investors learned that FTX had improperly commingled funds with sister trading company Alameda Research. A superseding indictment unveiled on Thursday adds four new charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transfer business, to the eight charges to which Bankman-Fried has already pleaded not guilty (Daily Wire). CNBC: Bankman-Fried is accused of stealing FTX customer deposits and using billions of dollars of those stolen funds to support FTX’s and Alameda’s operations and investments, to fund speculative investments, to make charitable contributions, and to enrich himself, the indictment notes (CNBC).

Florida Bill Introduced Cracking Down on Dogs Sticking Their Heads Out of Car Windows
Washington Times: A bill introduced in the Florida Legislature would make it illegal for man’s best friend to stick its head out car windows. Florida state Sen. Lauren Book, a Democrat, proposed the change in a larger animal welfare bill that also seeks to ban the declawing of cats, create a registry of animal abusers and limit cosmetic testing on animals, according to media reports. In the bill’s language, drivers would no longer be allowed to let their dog “extend its head or any other body part outside a motor vehicle window while the person is operating the motor vehicle on a public roadway” (Washington Times). Straight Arrow News: Not only would dogs be banned from sticking their head out of the window, but they would have to be secured inside the car. The bill says dogs would have to be in a crate, restrained with a seat belt, or under the physical control of someone other than the driver (Straight Arrow News).

Harvey Weinstein to Spend Rest of Life in Jail
Reuters: Harvey Weinstein, the onetime Hollywood titan who came to epitomize a culture of pervasive sexual misconduct by powerful men that ignited the MeToo movement, was sentenced on Thursday to 16 years in prison for the 2013 rape of an actress in Los Angeles. Weinstein was sentenced in a Los Angeles courtroom, where a jury in December found him guilty of rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by a foreign object (Reuters). Daily Mail: He will now serve the 16 years consecutively to the 21 years left in his New York sentence. That would mean that Weinstein would be extradited to California to serve his 16 years behind bars in the state at the age of 91. He would then only be released at the age of 107.  But he still claims he is innocent, and his lawyers tried to argue in court on Thursday that Weinstein was the victim of an unfair trial (Daily Mail).
