Snow Bunting
We have until March 15th to finish as much of the Maine Bird Atlas project as we can! The more people sharing their bird sightings, the better! Data will help guide future bird conservation efforts in Maine.
We identified 119 priority winter blocks (or defined areas of land that need to be surveyed), and are hoping to complete as many as possible to bring this five-year project to the finish line. If you are new to the project and are curious where you can help out, please read below or join us every Thursday at 6:30 pm via Zoom! We'll answer your questions, provide tips, and help you plan.?
?
?
We'll even help you plan a remote atlas/birding trip! You just need to bring your binoculars and sense of adventure.
?
Some of the remaining 119 blocks have major roads in them, making them easy to access. For example, these blocks near Danforth and just south of Ashland. Can you help?
The person who was covering these blocks won?t be able to finish them.? There are five blocks near Danforth and three blocks south of Ashland. If you can help, email [email protected]
?
?
Although you can contribute observations anywhere, ?Salmon? colored blocks in the map below are our highest priority for completion. Other blocks are lower priority or we already have a plan for them (we think).?
Remember, updates are coming in every day, so regularly check This Map for the latest info on any given priority block.? Email [email protected] to let us know which blocks you plan to survey for winter birds.??
