U.S. to Expand Troop Presence in Taiwan

The U.S. is markedly increasing the number of troops deployed to Taiwan, more than quadrupling the current number to bolster a training program for the island’s military amid a rising threat from China, as the WSJ reports.

UN Approves Resolution Calling for Russia to Leave Ukraine

The U.N. General Assembly approved a nonbinding resolution Thursday that calls for Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine and demands the withdrawal of its forces, sending a strong message on the eve of the first anniversary of the invasion that Moscow’s aggression must end, as the AP reports.

Poland Close to $10 Billion Weapons Deal with U.S.

Poland said on Thursday that it is close to finalizing a deal to buy additional American-made HIMARS rocket launchers and related equipment worth up to $10 billion, expanding Warsaw’s effort to fortify its military, as the NYT reports.
