Fellow Democrats, today, we’re writing to you about a concerning development in local Illinois politics.

Extremist groups here in Illinois have taken their hateful rhetoric to a dangerous new level, ramping up their campaign of intimidation and violent threats against school and library board members and candidates. What we saw on January 6, 2021 was just a rehearsal for some of these individuals.

It is unacceptable for anyone to resort to violence, intimidation, or harassment in order to push their political agenda, especially against those who are working to improve our education system and promote literacy.

These threats don’t just put these individuals at risk — they threaten the very foundation of our democracy.

It's up to all of us to stand up to their dangerous ideologies and ensure our communities remain safe and inclusive for everyone. It is only through collaboration and respect for all Illinoisans that we can build a better future for ourselves and future generations.
