Hi Jack,
This is just crazy. Two new voter suppression bills have been intro'd in the NC House and if they pass, thousands of voters will be locked out.
HB 123 will end early voting a full week before election day, axing four days from the current window. SB88 will will invalidate absentee ballots that arrive after 7:30 pm on election day (currently they need only be postmarked by election day, but can arrive days afterward). Thousands and thousands of voters would be cut off, with BIPOC voters hit hardest. When early voting was shortened in the past, Black votes went down 8%. We simply cannot afford a hit of this magnitude with 2024 elections right around the corner.
With your help, we're pushing back on this now. But if either of these bills pass, NNCP will go door-to-door, making sure folks know to update their voting plans. We can only do this with your support. Can you please help us make sure BIPOC voters aren't shut out of elections? |
Jack, we can't thank you enough for being a steady defender of democracy. Your ongoing support is more critical- and appreciated- than you can imagine. In Solidarity, Kristen Havlik Policy Director, New North Carolina Project |
