Safeguarding Indigenous Women’s Rights through Indigenous Community Media

Hear about the experiences of Indigenous women in community media. Panelists will discuss how to effectively use radio and other media to educate about and advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights. Learn how community media can be used as a tool against the criminalization of women communicators.

Securing Indigenous Women’s Rights in the Green Economy

Indigenous Peoples are facing a new wave of extractivism for transition minerals key in battery development such as copper, nickel, cobalt and lithium. These mining projects risk replicating the same harms of the fossil fuel economy: threatening Indigenous Peoples’ rights, especially Indigenous women’s rights, and destroying biodiverse ecosystems. Panelists will discuss why Indigenous women’s rights must be prioritized.

Los Pueblos Indígenas se enfrentan a una nueva ola de extractivismo de minerales de transición clave en el desarrollo de baterías como el cobre, el níquel, el cobalto y el litio. Estos proyectos mineros corren el riesgo de replicar los mismos daños de la economía de combustibles fósiles: amenazar los derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, especialmente los derechos de las mujeres Indígenas, y destruir los ecosistemas biodiversos.
