* I work to address hunger in Southwest Kansas, providing our families with the necessary resources to help put food on the table, support themselves, and raise healthy families. One of the best ways to do that is to pass Governor Laura Kelly’s “Axing Your Taxes” plan, which calls for the complete and immediate elimination of the food sales tax.
* In Kansas, one in ten adults faces hunger, burdened with impossible choices like being able to afford food or paying the rent that month. Meanwhile, one in seven children faces hunger, leaving our kids unsure of where their next meal might come from and hurting their physical and mental development.
* It doesn’t have to be this way. Eliminating the sales tax on food – as well as on diapers and feminine hygiene products, other proposals in Governor Kelly’s “Axing Your Taxes” plan – would benefit every Kansan, but would have a particularly positive impact on our rural residents.
* Governor Kelly’s “Axing Your Taxes” plan is estimated to save our state over $500 million in the next three years. This plan will put money back in our families’ pockets and help reduce the financial burden too many of our families across the state face.
