Applicants Sought for Community Mental Health Board

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners (BOC) is accepting applications to fill four terms on Macomb County?s Community Mental Health (CMH) Board that are expiring on March 31, 2023.? The new terms run from April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2026.

The CMH Board oversees Macomb County Community Mental Health (CMH) and is charged with providing a comprehensive array of mental health services appropriate to the needs of the primary consumers located within its service area, regardless of the ability to pay for the service. Macomb County CMH provides a variety of services including:


* Support and treatment services to meet the needs of adults with mental illness.
* Support to families of children with special needs with services including family counseling, family skills training and respite care services.
* Linking, coordinating and monitoring of a broad range of individualized supports and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
* The Macomb County Office of Substance Abuse (MCOSA), which is a department within MCCMH, that is responsible for planning, funding, monitoring and coordinating publicly funded substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services for Macomb County residents.
* The Open Access program that helps resolve crisis situations by offering same-day or next-day services, including crisis response, family support, links to resources, and help accessing mental health services and alternatives

By statute, the members are representatives of providers of mental health services, recipients of mental health services, agencies and occupations having a working involvement with mental health services and the general public. At least one of the four positions must be filled by a primary person served or family member.

Applicants should have an awareness of the need for the provision of mental health services in Macomb County, knowledge of the evolving mental health landscape and basic understanding of Medicaid regulations in the State of Michigan as well as the Mental Health Code in the area of provision of services.? Applicants also must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of Macomb County and cannot be employed by the Community Mental Health Program (CMHP), nor be a party to a contract, or administer or benefit financially from a contract with CMHP. In addition, applicants may not serve in a policy making position with an agency under contract with CMHP.

Applicants are expected to attend the Government Operations Committee meeting on March 9, 2023 at 3 pm for a public interview.? Appointments will take place at the March 16, 2023 Full Board meeting.

Board members receive $75 per diem, plus mileage as mandated by statute. Meetings are typically held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the BOC Board Room on the 9th Floor of the County Administration Building.
