The fight for fair sentencing in Congress is back on! Last week, the EQUAL Act was reintroduced in both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill would eliminate, once and for all, the indefensible sentencing disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine sentencing – and even better, it would make this repeal retroactive.

Last year, behind tremendous bipartisan support, the EQUAL Act passed out of the House of Representatives by a vote of 361-66. Strong bipartisan votes like that are few and far between in Congress. Unfortunately, the EQUAL Act did not get across the finish line in the Senate at the end of last year.

Congress must eliminate the disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine. This policy is unscientific and has resulted in vast racial disparities in our federal prison system. With your help, we can finally bring an end to this harmful law.
